Old school new Burial

The opening track on the forthcoming Dusk & Blackdown release is almost certainly archive material from the one like Burial. Although he hasn't formerly been credited on the release (yet) it would seem a pretty safe assumption...

Burial - High Road

More hype

Apparently R&S are in damage-control after Pariah's forthcoming Rift EP was leaked a full month ahead of its intended release. Hype. The title track has been getting plenty of praise - although if you're a skull disco aficionado like myself you might find it a bit retro.

Totally enormous...

...extinct dinosaurs. Hype, or something.

T.E.E.D. - Household Goods

Yeah, sorry bout that...

Back to the dub...

A big year for Ramadanman, as he serves up another very solid release on Hessle Audio. Downtempo jungle business with a HUGE atmos breakdown that needs to be heard to be believed. Play this one on the biggest system you can find, loud!

Pearson Sound - Blanked

Juke music?

Chicago juke music and dubstep might seem like an unlikely combination at first. Even when Addison Groove (aka Headhunter) released the critically acclaimed Footcrab/Dumbshit on Swamp 81 in March this year, a juke music upsurgence still seemed unlikely.

Addison Groove - Footcrab

However the jerky sub rhythms of Chi-town ghetto house have been steadily gaining popularity with dubstep/funky/house audiences worldwide. The latest release on the Swamp 81 imprint is another juke house outing, this time from the one like Ramadanman.

Work Them is an absolute killer, picking up where Glut left off, and adding that distinctive jerk house feel.

Ramadanman - Work Them

And with one of Chicago's finest juke producers DJ Nate recently signed to Planet Mu, big tings a gwan for the footwork scene. Nate's first release on the label is pretty spectacular too - Hatas Our Motivation packs 6 solid juke tracks - and with Da Trak Genious LP set to drop later this month it's juke heaven for footworkin fans everywhere!

DJ Nate - We Can Work This Out

Finally, some old stuff. One of my favorite juke tracks of all time, in that distinctive Chi-town melancholy stylee that we will hopefully be seeing a lot more of over the next few months. Not the best quality rip, but good enough for an unreleased track.

DJ Ro - I Cry

New jungle bizness?

Had to post this little junglistic suprise which was dropped on the flip of the latest release from Palms Out Sounds - its right up my alley after all. The original mix - a summery funky house excursion - is also worth checking.

LOL Boys - 123 (Camo UFOs)

Also, an alternative version of the original is available as a free download on the Palms Out Sounds blog.

37 degress in Osaka

Ooooweee! The newest release on my favorite dubstep label doesn't disappoint. Glitchy stepper business from TRG carries on the fine tradition of solid releases from Hemlock Records. Tower Block is definitely the highlight for me on this one. Boomshot!

Cosmin TRG - Tower Block

Cosmin TRG - Béton Brut

Free Kode 9 tunage!

Don't let the name fool you, dis ere a well tidy funky dub from Hyperdub label head Kode 9. Hype for his forthcoming DJ Kicks album, cop it while you can!

Kode 9 - You Don't Wash Dub

Those of you who downloaded this nice and quick should have gotten a tidy bonus Martyn remix in the post. For all those that didn't...

Kode 9 - You Don't Wash (Martyn rmx)

Jackal Youth

Bit of speculation regarding the origin of this one - it sounds an awful lot like Deadboy on a similar tip to U Cheated. One to check if you're into glitchy 2-step/funky.

Jackal Youth - Let Me Be

Believe the hype

With new Mount Kimbie ready to drop on Hot Flush in July I've been frantically scrambling to get a promo of what will no doubt be the one of THE highlights of 2010. With Crooks & Lovers the duo have delivered a much more polished album than I expected; the full-length LP also has greater scope than the previous two EPs. It's amazing... don't sleep!

Watch the ride

Breakbeat artist Baobinga has drifted into slightly more funky territory lately, with recent releases on Build Recordings. This, the second release from label, follows a similar theme to the first - skankin' riddim on the A-side with remix business on the flip. And while Roska did a brilliant job remixing Tongue Riddim on BUILD001, it doesn't really compare to the absolute destruction inflicted by Untold on BUILD002, with his remix of Ride It.

Baobinga - Ride It (Untold Remix)

With mutilated cowbells and relentless bassline pressure, Untold drags this funky tune kicking and screaming to the cemetery. Murder!

Sweet!

I love ravey tunes! Stabby piano riffs and uplifting vocals creating familiar, pleasant soundscapes that get ripped to shreds immediately after the drop? Bliss :)

Like this lovely little number from dubstep producer Doctor P. Not sure if this is set to be released any time soon, but keep an eye out for the Doctors latest tune "Badman Sound", forthcoming on Dub Police.
